Betcha
didn't even know it was out of print. A new printing ---
the seventh --- is due any day now. This means there are
more than 6,000 copies of Breakthrough now in print. Not
bad for an independently published book. The new printing
is the same as the previous edition, the exception being the
correction of several typoes and errors.
In
1987, a fierce winter storm punched a hole through the barrier
beach that for decades had protected the Atlantic-facing
shoreline of Chatham, Massachusetts. The resulting erosion
claimed acres of priceless shorefront property and numerous
homes, sparking a battle between property owners and government
regulators for the right to protect the remaining land from the
ocean’s onslaught. BREAKTHROUGH, THE STORY OF CHATHAM’S
NORTH BEACH chronicles that struggle, and details the cycle of
breaching and rebuilding of the barrier beach, a natural process
that has been happening for centuries. With more than 25
photographs and charts, BREAKTHROUGH tells the story of a town
and its people, and their often stormy but symbiotic
relationship with nature and the sea.
Hyora Publications, in
association with Murray the Cat Productions, announces a NEW
EDITION of BREAKTHROUGH: THE STORY OF CHATHAM’S
NORTH BEACH by
Timothy J. Wood.
